Good-Bye, Margaret Ann
by Joe Cook

It was Sunday in late March and the day was so nice
We had gone to church and then on to lunch
Talked about trees being green and the flowers in bloom
What a nice day to say good-bye, Margaret Ann

She laid down for a while, but her face had no smile
For there was pain in her legs and her back
There was comfort in sleep so she made not a peep
As she maybe dreamed of a better tomorrow
Sometime in her nap her heart skipped a lap
And she slipped into the other plateau
Where there is no pain and God's love is abound
What a nice day to say good-bye, Margaret Ann

When she wouldn't awake there was an overwhelming ache
As we stood dumbfounded and pondered our world
For there was a peace in her sleep that we wanted to keep
As she lay so peaceful and still
I lay down beside her and wondered if I could feel
The presence of Angels as they came for her soul
But it was earlier in the day that they took her away
What a nice day to say good-bye, Margaret Ann

Kin folk, neighbors and friends, we all said our Amen's
As a beautiful Mass and Rosary was said in her name
This beautiful Lady, Mother, Grandmother and Friend
Who tried to keep us in harmony and keep us from sin
Now greeted in heaven by her family of seven
Say hello to our Stevie Ray and may God bless you we pray
In memory live on til we meet according to plan
What a nice day to say good-bye, Margaret Ann
