Established in
1993, the Stevie Ray Vaughan Memorial Scholarship Fund, coordinated
by the Communities Foundation of Texas, and Mrs. Martha Vaughan,
was created in Stevie's memory to assist music students pursue
their educational dreams. This award is given to students in
the 8th grade at the end of the school year. Scholarships are
given to students who are recommended by their teachers who have
demonstrated a strong interest and ability in music and have
a desire to attend a college or university. Candidates for scholarships
must have good grades, a good school attendance record and be
financially needy. W.E. Griener Middle School & Exploratory
Arts Academy, a Dallas Independent School District magnet school
for music has been selected as the target school for the awards.
An inner-city school, Greiner is located in the heart of Oakcliff
where Stevie spent his childhood. 100% of contributions given
go directly to the Scholarship Fund for all event organizers
are volunteers.

Charter Peachford is a privately funded facility, but they welcome charitable donations for a number of programs, including one for abandoned/abused children. Since Stevie was an alumni of Charter Peachford's, it's another option with the SRV charities. Charter

I have it from good authority that Stevie supported the local food bank in Dallas. Drug Abuse Resistance Education Stevie did the Texas Dept. of Transporation poster to speak out against driving under the influence called "Hugs Not Drugs". ![]() I don't know that he directly supported a similar charity, but I imagine he did, because it would have been unlike him to lend his name to something he didn't support.
